Re-inventing the Sokos department store brand and concept

We were briefed to create a new retail concept for Finland’s largest department store chain Sokos and pilot the concept in a 3000 m² space in a new shopping center in Helsinki. The objective was to freshen the image customers have of the brand and to give it a contemporary look and feel.

We gave the Sokos brand experience a total makeover, beginning with a thorough ethnographic study and shopper categorisation and following with service definition and design, and spatial design and architecture, including retail fixtures and signage. Lastly, the new concept was minutely documented in a concept manual.
